Street style VS. High fashion

1. Beatniks

Beatnik style was influenced by media stereotype in 1950s and 1960s. It originate from Beat Generation literary movement. At that time people received violent from film and become anti-materialistic. Beat culture also reflect out in fashion style. Beatniks dress and style compose of black color and berets.

2. Hippies

Hippie was a youth movement that originally happen in United States, early 1960s. The word hippy came from a “hipster” word. This word used to call a group of people who moved to San Francisco. Hippy was not only a movement, but also a life style, music and fashion too. The modern hippies trend consist of head band, drapery textile and peace symbol.

3. Mods

Mod, originally modernist or capitalise was orriginated in London in late 1950s. The most popular era for this style was in mid 1960s. Not only fashion style, mod included pop music, ska and R&B too. At that time Mod also used to describe anything that believed to be popular. Mod fashion style consists of black color clothes, coat and turtle neck.

4. Hiphop

Hip Hop originate from B-boying or breakdancing. It also known as cultural movement of African American group of people. There is a relationship between music and hip hop, beatbox and rap are hip hop music culture that we all familiar with. It also developed a close relationship with arts, known as Graffiti. Talking about hip hop culture in fashion, it starts in early 1980s to mid 1980. Accessories are hip hop popular items, such as, large eyeglasses, nameplates and bling necklace.

5. Teddy Boys

Teddy Boy’s style represented working class people with high fashion sense in the old day.  And it is one more example of fashion style represented the idea against austerity of post-war years. Teddy Boy was popular in late 50s. People saw this fashion trend from Teds. But, actually, it popularized by the Edwardian period. The film, Blackboard jungle (1955) support this trend in UK. The Teddy Boy itself mainly concentrated on oversize suit with high-necked loose collar.

6. Zoot Suit

Zoot suit was popular since 1930s. It is a suit with high waisted and wide legged pants. The suit itself has a long tail and padded shoulders. This style also have a relationship with music and culture because it used to be African American’s main style in 1930s to 1940s. For later, Zoot suit use for special occasion such as birthday or dance events. After world war ll, it also refer to social freedom when wearing oversize suit. Zoot suit become recognizable when it was Edward James Olmos wear it.

7. Disco

Disco is one of a dance music that used to be popular in 1960s to 1970s. It was a form of black community and gay men. Disco fashion started almost at the same period of disco music and disco club. This trend was also cultural movement. Disco style could be mini skirt, halter neck to maxi dress. These dress mainly colorful and futuristic (at that time).

8. Punk

The original punk fashion happened in 1970s and it appeared to be very informal, extraordinary and went as far as possible from religious side. But punk underwent its hardcore in 1980s. It starts in United Kingdom with the angry and unlimited dress style. Most of Punk fashion lovers were influenced by heavy metal music. According to wikipidia, there are 12 different styles of punk such as Standard Punk, Droog, Pop Punk, Skate Punk,etc. These styles differentiate upon clothing habits. Glitter*

Its winter, lots of festival and special occasion is coming. Its party time! Street trend now come to glitter dress and accessories. It was influenced by disco trend. This dress style can also be seen in many media and runway.

This trend become alive again after Michel Jackson died. People started to wear crop shiny embroidery jacket and it spread all over the town. This jacket also popular among hollywood singers and actresses.
